Carbon Steel Pilot Nose Screw Thread Insert (STI) Tap.
Designed with economy in mind ProThread carbon steel taps allow the tapping of worn and damaged threads where a heavier duty HSS tap is not required.
STI Taps have a larger diameter, than standard taps, but the same pitch to accommodate the wire thread insert. Pilot nose taps feature a standard diameter lead thread that engages with the damaged thread to guide the larger diameter thread cutting section of the STI tap.
Once the insert is installed in the tapped hole it creates the desired internal thread tolerance for the installed bolt or stud.
